To change the backstraps, simply push out its retaining pin, slide the backstrap off the frame, install the new one and reinstall the pin. If you get the slide off and the sear is moving freely in the fire control unit you did the same thing I did. Remove the striker just by turning the weapon barrel up and it should slide right out this allows the slide to come off because the striker won’t be getting hung up on the sear. I had to remove the slide end plate-be careful the striker spring has tons of pressure and the striker spring stopper will fly off to the heavens if not careful. Ok so I had this problem too, what happened with me was when I went to field strip the slide from the frame I must have accidentally put the trigger into reset mode, what this did was release the sear from the fire control unit. That being said the company definitely redeems itself once you get one of their guns out to the range and I hope you’ll have ample opportunity to do that.Įdit: by slap I mean a literal slap or a rubber mallet, by don’t beat it I mean don’t slam it into a table or use a claw hammer. A lot of times gun brokers, shops, and private sellers won’t lubricate their weapons or will use super low quality lubricants that hardly do the job.Īfter that I’d take it to a gunsmith or someone knowledgeable who can get a hand on your 509. Also rack the slide to the rear and see if your rod is lubricated, if not then drip a few drops of CLP in there, rack it a few times, let it sit 10 minutes, then try again. That doesn’t mean beat your gun, but a slap sometimes works wonders. A lot of guns have a break in period, luckily guns like the 509 are sturdy as hell and can take some tough love to get through that break in time. Make sure you don’t have a magazine inserted during this process.

When I first got my full size 509 the takedown was a little finicky and required me finding a sweet spot, but after a few firm wiggles it popped off. Well sorry this is your first experience with an otherwise phenomenal gun and hobby/passion.
